Dajania James named Miss Rochester Outstanding Teen

East Rochester Junior Dajania James was selected as Rochester’s Miss Outstanding Teen and won Best Overall Interview during the state competition over Memorial Day weekend! As part of the prize package Daja will receive compensation, college scholarships and the opportunity to travel and make extensive appearances throughout the year, during which she will further her social impact initiative to amplify underrepresented youth through media.

Dajania is the Vice-President of the National Honor Society and a member of the Student Council, Select Chorus, and band. She has been in the Urban-Suburban program, attending ER, since seventh grade. Dajania is also on the Varsity Cheerleading team and is in the top six percent of her class; holding a 3.8 GPA on the Advanced Regents track.

As a Diversity Ambassador at East Rochester, Dajania facilitated discussions on racism and biases. Outside of school, Dajania is dance captain of the Senior Company Dance Team at The Floor Dance Company, a member of Jack and Jill of America Inc. and hosts a teen-based radio show called “Simply Supreme” on 100.9 FM WXIR.

The Miss America Organization hosts a Miss America’s Outstanding Teen program, which provides a year of service to candidates as they have opportunities to earn scholarships, develop public speaking skills, engage in community activism, and network with professionals from around the state and nation.

Daja will also be competing for the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen National Title this August in Dallas Texas!

Her family notes that the teen aspires to be an international performing artist and philanthropist in the future.
