Dear East Rochester Junior/Senior High School Students and Families,

We hope this letter finds everyone rested and relaxed from summer vacation! I, myself, have enjoyed time camping at various New York State parks. It was nice to unplug and spend time with my family in different ways. Mr. Onze enjoyed a very nice vacation on Cape Cod. Mr. Cafalone has been fishing, golfing and boating. So many different ways we have enjoyed our summer, and we hope you and your family have had time to enjoy yours.

The 21-22 school year is around the corner. We are very excited to be coming back to five-day schedules with classes returning to a daily nine-period schedule from 7:45 AM -2:27 PM. Middle Level Academy (MLA) and High School (HS) students will be able to enter the building for breakfast starting at 7:15, using the Single Point of Entry (SPE). If not coming in for breakfast, MLA students will enter via the MLA doors at 7:35 and HS students will use the SPE. Starting at 7:45, all late students will enter via the SPE.

Nothing replaces the interactions between staff and students when they are in person, and students can enjoy seeing and interacting with their friends in person. We are continuing to monitor recommendations from the CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Monroe County Health Department and the New York State Education Department, and we will keep you informed of any updates to our policies and protocols in ER. Masks will continue to be worn by all students and staff when 6 feet social distancing cannot be maintained. Similar to
last year, lunch will be in the cafeteria utilizing individual desks or large tables. This allows students to maintain 6 feet social distancing while unmasked and eating.

What students will see on the first day is a shiny, clean building thanks to the tireless efforts of Mr. Friday’s staff. Teachers and staff are completing summer projects and currently working on getting rooms and materials ready for the upcoming year.

We would like to take this opportunity to focus on all the opportunities that ER has to offer students. School involvement is critical to student success, and we want every student to become involved and showcase their ER Pride! Beyond extracurricular activities, we remain very proud of the academic supports available to students throughout the year.

Student schedules can be viewed in the Parent Portal, starting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1. No schedule changes will be made during the first two weeks of school. If a requested class is missing, please email your counselor.
