Did you know you can’t train a frog? That’s right! It’s up to contestant frog jockeys to learn what the frog needs to be able to go the distance. (Catch a sneak peak at Secrets to the Frog Jump here). Professional Frog Teams travel from all over the world to compete. Each contestant will place their frog on the starting lily pad and sing, leap, dance, whistle, stomp, yell, or blow to get their frog to begin jumping–but whatever you do, remember that in order to qualify, once your frog is on the starting lily pad, you cannot touch the frog.
Once the frog begins to jump, a good frog jockey knows to attempt to get the frog to continue moving forward in a straight line, since the final distance will be measured from the starting lily pad in a straight line to the final landing position the frog made in it’s third jump. So if your frog jumps in a circle, even if it’s a REALLY big circle, that would count as zero feet.
May 14th National Day of.........
National Decency Day on May 14th celebrates the basic standard of civility that every American deserves. DECENCY is a non-partisan grassroots movement that was launched to inspire decency in everyday life – in both conversations and action. By raising awareness, the movement aims to encourage schools and local community groups to embrace DECENCY and integrate it into both curriculum plans and service projects.
DECENCY is all about:
Active listening
Better understanding
Compassion
Our children need role models. If we can all be civil with one another, we are setting the right example.

Early Observances of Memorial Day
The Civil War, which ended in the spring of 1865, claimed more lives than any conflict in U.S. history and required the establishment of the country’s first national cemeteries.
By the late 1860s, Americans in various towns and cities had begun holding springtime tributes to these countless fallen soldiers, decorating their graves with flowers and reciting prayers.
Did you know? Each year on Memorial Day a national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time.
It is unclear where exactly this tradition originated; numerous different communities may have independently initiated the memorial gatherings. Nevertheless, in 1966 the federal government declared Waterloo, New York, the official birthplace of Memorial Day.
Waterloo—which first celebrated the day on May 5, 1866—was chosen because it hosted an annual, community-wide event, during which businesses closed and residents decorated the graves of soldiers with flowers and flags.
Make your weekend celebration, a safe and happy one.......

JUNE 7, 2019 - Fun Facts: 1st Friday in June is National Doughnut(Donut) Day!!
The earliest origins to the modern doughnuts are generally traced back to the olykoek (“oil(y) cake”) Dutch settlers brought with them to early New York (or New Amsterdam) in the early 18th century. These doughnuts closely resembled later ones but did not yet have their current ring-sized shape.
Did you know?........In most vehicles that you buy today, the spare tire in the trunk of the vehicle isn't actually a spare – it's a temporary tire, also called a donut.
- Lego is the largest manufacturer of tires. The toy company produces 306 million of the little tires every year.
- Michelin is working on producing the “tweel”, a one-piece airless wheel and tire. The tweel offers the possibility of no flat tires, and replaceable treads.
- Early cars used “artillery wheels” that had the tire bolted to the wheel. Have fun changing that flat.
- The Space Shuttle’s main wheels are approximately the size of those found on an 18-wheeler. However, one Space Shuttle tire can support 142,000 pounds, and is rated for 259 mph.

JUNE 10, 2019 - Did you know??
NATIONAL BLACK COW DAY
National Black Cow Day is observed each year on June 10. Are you in the mood for ice cream? We are all familiar with the Root Beer Float but did you know that it is also called the Black Cow?
A Black Cow was originally made with root beer and vanilla ice cream. Now it is sometimes made with root beer and chocolate ice cream or cola and vanilla ice cream.
Frank J. Wisner of Cripple Creek, Colorado, gets the credit for inventing the Black Cow way back in August of 1893.
One night, as Wisner, owner of the Cripple Creek Cow Mountain Gold Mining Company, was staring out the window and thinking about the line of soda waters that he was producing for the citizens of Cripple Creek, he came upon an idea. The full moon that night, shining on a snow-capped Cow Mountain, reminded him of a scoop of vanilla ice cream. He hurried back to his bar and added a spoonful of the creamy vanilla goodness to the children’s favorite flavor of soda, Myers Avenue Red Root Beer. When he tasted it, he knew he had a hit. Sure enough, he did!
Wisner named the new creation, Black Cow Mountain but the local children shortened the name to Black Cow.

The day that "The War of 1812" began.
The day after the Senate followed the House of Representatives in voting to declare war against Great Britain, President James Madison signs the declaration into law—and the War of 1812 begins. The American war declaration, opposed by a sizable minority in Congress, had been called in response to the British economic blockade of France, the induction of American seaman into the British Royal Navy against their will, and the British support of hostile Indian tribes along the Great Lakes frontier. A faction of Congress known as the “War Hawks” had been advocating war with Britain for several years and had not hidden their hopes that a U.S. invasion of Canada might result in significant territorial land gains for the United States.

Full Moon this week!
The Full Strawberry Moon During Sagittarius: Prepare For a Big Energy Shift On June 17 2019
A beautiful and stunning full moon will soon be lighting up the night sky on this coming Monday the 17th. The June Full Strawberry Moon in Sagittarius is set to stun, but not because of what you’re likely assuming, but rather due to the cosmic shift in energy that will be accompanying it.
While it’s called a strawberry moon, don’t expect to gaze up at an actual strawberry colored disc in the sky because the name doesn’t come from the color of it. Instead, the moniker stems from harvest season of the strawberry of Algonquin Tribe in The Northeast part of America right before the official start of summer on the summer solstice!
